SEEDS05 Database Entry
The SEEDS05 database contains entries for Vash, Knives, and Tesla.
All three are listed under Project Code type-T. Their category is Independents. All three were 55 lb at time of entry. Vash and Knives were 4 ft 1 in, and Tesla was 4 ft 4 in.
Genetic Makeup
After Vash is brought to SEEDS03, his genetic makeup is scanned. Luida says Vash’s genetic makeup is very human.
Physical Needs
Vash requires regular food, water, and sleep to survive, the same as or similar to a human. In “Our Home“, Vash says: “Unlike normal plants, I can’t make anything. The other one wasn’t like me. All I do is eat, drink, and sleep.”
Food and Water
Vash does go through periods where he eats nothing or very little, but this appears to be largely psychological, a method of self-harm. It’s not clear what effects this behavior has on his health. After The Big Fall he does learn to access his plant energy in some form in order to help dependent plants, though it is not enough to prevent him from needing sustenance and rest.
Vash drinks an unidentified beverage (not water or beer — maybe coffee or tea?) in “The Running Man“. He is served beer later in the same episode but leaves without drinking it, though Rosa’s offer likely means she has seen him drink beer in the past. He eats a Grand Worm rib in “HUNGRY!“
Sleep
Vash appears to need regular sleep, and stress or exhaustion can cause him to need extended sleep. He naps in and on top of Meryl and Roberto’s car in “HUNGRY!” and “Child of Blessing“. He passes out after communing with the sand steamer plant in “WOLFWOOD” and wakes up a significant amount of time later in “Our Home“.
Air
When fully powered up in “High Noon at July“, Vash flies up into space. Based on the views of him above the planet, he does reach the thermosphere. He is able to speak to Knives and does not appear to suffer from the lack of oxygen. As he starts to fall, he appears to be at the equivalent of the International Space Station’s orbit around Earth, which is an altitude of 330-410 km.
This ability may only be the result of his powered-up state, or he may be able to survive without air in his normal state. In “Child of Blessing“, he is strangled by Rollo/Monev the Gale but is still able to rasp out pleading words to Monev. It is not clear if Monev would have been able to kill Vash this way if Wolfwood had not intervened.
