On the Christian imagery and themes in this volume

This post is a reply to pancake-breakfast’s Trigun Maximum Volume 10: Crucifixion Symbology

YES, @pancake-breakfast hit the nail (hehe nail โœ๏ธ) on the head! (And no need to apologize, every citation is an honor! ๐Ÿ˜)

“Wolfwood isn’t the ‘Christ’ image in this story, but before his part in it is done, he’s reached a point that is, like Vash, ‘Christ-like.’ At the very least, he’s enough of a Christ to save Livio’s soul when the only other option for Livio at the time was death. So Wolfwood is Christ for Livio as Vash was Christ for Wolfwood.”

Absolutely, and Vash and Livio having dinner afterwards brings to mind a communion meal. Livio even has a flashback to young Wolfwood literally breaking bread with him.

Luke 22:19 (NRSV) – Then he took a loaf of bread, and when he had given thanks he broke it and gave it to them, saying, โ€œThis is my body, which is given for you. Do this in remembrance of me.โ€

LOL! The weirdest and the best bible study group. It’s great because this is what it’s like to approach the bible from a more academic/literary perspective. When you’re familiar with its contents, you’re equipped to recognize the intertexual derivations from it in other stories.
