They seek seek shelter in the mansion of Cliff Schezar, only to discover he has hired Vash the Stampede as a bodyguard to protect himself and his guest, Marianne Aura Cayzen, the granddaughter of the head of the Stantal Federal Bureau. Meryl tries to convince Cliff that Vash is an imposter, but discovers that Cliff already believes that himself, and is using Vash’s reputation as a scare tactic.
Concerned, Meryl offers herself and Milly as bodyguards as well, believing that the real Vash is the attacker. After dinner, Vash flirts with Marianne, but then she disappears. Vash, Meryl, and Milly discover a hidden tunnel that leads to a vast water storage area. Cliff has been hoarding the entire town’s water, and Marianne is an undercover Marshall. Vash intervenes to save Marianne, but in the process the water storage breaks open, flooding the town. Marianne arrests Cliff and assures them that the town will recover. Vash makes a quick escape before Marianne decides to arrest him, too.

Ghost Town
JPN -> ENG Subtitles | English Dub |
The suns blaze overhead. Meryl Stryfe and Milly Thompson ride into town, Milly riding on her thomas and Meryl walking on her right. Meryl holds the reins of her own thomas. Meryl is dragging along an empty water canteen by its strap, and both are gasping and clearly suffering from dehydration. The town is dry, worn and abandoned. Sweat drips down Milly’s chin.
Milly Thompson: Ma’am, I don’t see a soul. Meryl Stryfe: No one told me this town had become a ghost town. Milly Thompson: I hope there’s a well somewhere… Meryl Stryfe: Wishful thinking will only make the truth more painful. | Milly Thompson: Meryl, I don’t see a soul anywhere. Meryl Stryfe: Nobody told me this became a ghost town. I didn’t hear anybody say anything about that. Milly Thompson: I really hope there’s a well around. Meryl Stryfe: Wishful thinking doesn’t help. Just don’t think about it, it only makes the truth more painful. |
Meryl Stryfe and Milly Thompson let out excited yells when they see a well and rush over, pulling the rope up frantically. They squeal in excitement before seeing that the bucket is empty, screaming in distress. They let the bucket go back to the bottom of the well, and they simultaneously fall flat on their backs.
Milly Thompson: The truth hurts. Meryl Stryfe: I agree. | Milly Thompson: You were right, the truth hurts. Meryl Stryfe: I hate being right. |
Meryl Stryfe sees that parts of a nearby building have sunk lower than the rest, a sign of land subsidence.
Meryl Stryfe: (confused noise) Land sinkage? Father: Land sakes! | Meryl Stryfe: Huh? Land subsidence? Father: Tarnation! |
A father and son walk past Meryl Stryfe and Milly Thompson. The father has a camping backpack with a bedroll on top. Kuroneko trails behind them on a leash attached to the backpack. The father waves his arms as he talks, and the son has his arms tucked behind his head.
Father: First the water dries up and then the legendary outlaw shows up! | Father: First the water dries up, then that dang criminal the Humanoid Typhoon shows up! This town ain’t fit to live in no more. |
The son jumps in excitement and makes finger guns, pretending to shoot at his father.
Son: Yeah, Vash the Stampede, a hired gun at Mr. Schezar’s mansion! Father: This town is finished! Son: Oh, it’s the end of the world… …the e-e-end of the world! | Son: Yeah, Vash the Stampede, the new hired gun at Schezar’s mansion. Father: Aw shucks. This town is finished! Son: Bad times are here! La la la la la la la |
Meryl Stryfe’s eyes light up with excitement and she grins at Milly Thompson. Milly gives a happy smile back.
Milly Thompson: Ma’am! Meryl Stryfe: Finally… | Milly Thompson: Hmm, Meryl? Meryl Stryfe: Uh huh! |
Meryl Stryfe stands and holds up a box of doughnuts.
Meryl Stryfe: Finally! | Meryl Stryfe: Alright! |
Milly Thompson stands and clasps her hands together.
Milly Thompson: We can get water from that mansion! | Milly Thompson: I’m so excited, now we can get water from that mansion |
Meryl Stryfe rubs her forehead in frustration.
Meryl Stryfe: No, not that. | Meryl Stryfe: Oh I give up. |
Hired Bodyguard
JPN -> ENG Subtitles | English Dub |
Meryl Stryfe knocks on the front door of the Schezar manor. The thomases are hitched to a post in front of the manor.
Meryl Stryfe: Excuse me, is this the Schezar residence? I’m Meryl Stryfe, disaster investigator for the Bernardelli Insurance Society. Milly Thompson: I’m Milly Thompson! | Meryl Stryfe: Excuse me, is this the Schezar residence? My name is Meryl Stryfe and I’m here on behalf of the Bernardelli Insurance Society. I’d like to talk to you for a minute please. Milly Thompson: Yeah and I’m her partner, Milly Thompson– |
Milly Thompson clasps her hands together.
Milly Thompson: I’m very thirsty! Meryl Stryfe: Don’t say that! We heard that Vash the Stampede was staying here. | Milly Thompson: –and we’re very thirsty. Meryl Stryfe: Hey don’t say that. I just need to ask you a few questions about Vash the Stampede. I heard that he was staying here. |
The door opens. A pair of hands, glad in brown leather gloves, hold out two full glasses of water. Meryl Stryfe and Milly Thompson gasp in delight. They take the glasses and gulp down the water with their eyes closed. They give gasps of refreshment when they finish and return the empty glasses.
Milly Thompson: Thank you! Meryl Stryfe: We really appreciate this! | Milly Thompson: Thank you very much! Meryl Stryfe: Yes, we certainly appreciate this. |
Meryl Stryfe and Milly Thompson open their eyes gasp in surprise. They see heavy brown boots and a bright red duster and look up. Vash the Stampede is standing there with the two empty glasses held in his right hand. He raises his left hand and waves.
Vash the Stampede: Hello! | Vash the Stampede: Hello! |
Meryl Stryfe and Milly Thompson stare in surprise. Milly Thompson smiles and waves.
Milly Thompson: Hello! Meryl Stryfe: What are you doing here? Vash the Stampede: I’m Mr. Cliff’s hired bodyguard, ace gunman! | Milly Thompson: Hello! Meryl Stryfe: Hey what’re you doing here? You’re not supposed to be here. Vash the Stampede: I work here now. I’m Mr. Cliff’s hired bodyguard and I’m his exclusive ace gunman. |
Vash the Stampede spots the doughnut box that Meryl Stryfe is holding. Vash sticks the empty glasses in his pocket, then takes the doughnut box.
Vash the Stampede: Is that for me? Hey, thanks! | Vash the Stampede: Hey is that for me? How nice. Oh you shouldn’t have! |
Vash the Stampede eats the doughnuts with gusto.
Meryl Stryfe: You, a bodyguard? | Meryl Stryfe: Are you really a bodyguard? |
Vash the Stampede talks with his mouth full.
Vash the Stampede: Yup. Meryl Stryfe: Yup?! Milly Thompson: We meet again, Mr. Ace Gunman! | Vash the Stampede: Oh these are good! Meryl Stryfe: I can’t believe it! Milly Thompson: We’re happy to see you again Mr. Ace Gunman. |
Vash the Stampede starts eating another doughnut.
Vash the Stampede: It’s an amazing coincidence! These are really good! | Vash the Stampede: It’s an amazing coincidence. These are really delicious. |
Vash the Stampede starts eating yet another doughnut.
Vash the Stampede: Want one? | Vash the Stampede: Would you like one? |
Milly Thompson smiles and clasps her hands together.
Milly Thompson: Yes, I’d love one!! Meryl Stryfe: Stop the irrelevant chatter, Milly. What’s your real reason for being here?! | Milly Thompson: Why yes, I’d love one. Meryl Stryfe: Huh? You have got to keep your mind on business Milly. Milly Thompson: Huh? Meryl Stryfe: Alright Ace, I wanna know. What’s your real reason for being here? |
Vash smiles through his mouthful of doughnut. His cheeks flush pink. Meryl Stryfe frowns, concerned.
Meryl Stryfe: That’s an odd response. | Meryl Stryfe: Well now that was an odd response. |
From inside the house, Cliff Schezar chuckles. Cliff steps out beside Vash the Stampede. He’s holding a smoking pipe.
Cliff Schezar: Are these young ladies friends of yours, Vash? | Cliff Schezar: Ahem Ahem, excuse me, I don’t mean to interrupt you, but are these young ladies friends of yours Vash? |
Meryl Stryfe points at Vash the Stampede.
Meryl Stryfe: Vash? He’s not… Cliff Schezar: In any event, you seem to be here for a reason. Meryl Stryfe: Eh? Cliff Schezar: We shouldn’t discuss it out here. Please come in. | Meryl Stryfe: What? Vash? He’s not Vash! What the hell are you talking about? Cliff Schezar: In any event, you two seem to be here for a reason. Meryl Stryfe: Huh? Cliff Schezar: We shouldn’t be discussing this out here. Won’t you please come in? |
Cliff Schezar and Vash the Stampede walk back into the manor.
Milly Thompson: Uh, we’re… | Milly Thompson: Uh yeah, but I don’t think that we- uh- |
Meryl Stryfe and Milly Thompson follow them inside. Milly shuts the door behind them. |
Wanted: Bodyguard
JPN -> ENG Subtitles | English Dub |
A warped vinyl record is playing on a record player, which emits a wavering brass instrumental tune. Vash the Stampede and Cliff Schezar sit together on a green couch, and Meryl Stryfe and Milly Thompson sit opposite them on a second green couch. There is a brown coffee table between them. There is a red curtain near them, hiding an area by the wall.
Cliff Schezar: I am Cliff Schezar. I make a living selling water in this town, but recently someone’s been trying to kill me. So I advertised for a good bodyguard. | Cliff Schezar: My name is Cliff Schezar. I make my living selling water to this town but recently somebody’s been trying to kill me. That could be bad for business and my health, so I advertised for a good bodyguard. |
Cliff Schezar leans forward and points to an ornate ad on the coffee table. The ad text reads (all misspellings are correct): WANTED BODYGUARD REQUIRE: GREAT SHOOTER LIKE VASH THE STANPEAT PAY/HOUR: CASH $$500.00— BENEFITS: • 3MEARS WITH NAP • ROOM • WEAPON & BULLETS • SPECIAL BONUS • PETS OK
Cliff Schezar: For someone good and tough, like Vash the Stampede. | Cliff Schezar: Someone tough and smart, like Vash the Stampede. |
Cliff Schezar and Meryl Stryfe both look down at the ad. A pink rope hangs down between them.
Meryl Stryfe: Oh. Cliff Schezar: I originally wrote it as a joke. I never dreamed the real thing would show up. Eh, Vash? | Meryl Stryfe: Oh. Cliff Schezar: I originally put his name down as a joke. It never occurred to me that it would be taken seriously and that the real thing would actually show up. Ha! Isn’t that right, Vash? |
Vash the Stampede puts his hand on his chin. He is drawn in the style of a romance manga.
Vash the Stampede: Yes. Now that I am here, you have nothing to fear. | Vash the Stampede: Yeah it’s me alright. Now that I’m here, you have nothing to fear. |
Vash the Stampede stands up and flexes his arms upward.
Vash the Stampede: Merciless slayer of all that is good! | Vash the Stampede: The man who will slaughter the innocent! |
Vash the Stampede flexes in another pose, with one arm down and one arm up.
Vash the Stampede: Doer of the evil, evil deeds a man with $$60 billion on his head does! | Vash the Stampede: Does the most evil of evil deeds with the price of sixty billion double dollars on his head! |
Vash the Stampede crouches in a menacing pose.
Vash the Stampede: That’s me! | Vash the Stampede: I am that man! |
Vash the Stampede goes down on one knee and poses with one arm flexed and the other extended.
Cliff Schezar: He’s such a nice, dependable guy. Milly Thompson: Now the people in this mansion will feel safe! | Cliff Schezar: What a nice dependable guy! And modest as well. (chuckles) Milly Thompson: Isn’t it wonderful? With Vash around, the people of the mansion will be safe. |
Vash the Stampede moves back to his original pose with his arms flexed upward. Meryl Stryfe hits table with both fists, despairing.
Meryl Stryfe: This may sound rude, but you need your eyes checked! | Meryl Stryfe: Ugh. This may sound rude but I think you should have your eyes checked. |
Marianne Aura Cayzen
JPN -> ENG Subtitles | English Dub |
Cliff Schezar leans in close to Meryl Stryfe.
Cliff Schezar: Hear me out. I desperately needed a good bodyguard. | Cliff Schezar: Now listen young lady, it’s very important that I have a good bodyguard, let me explain to you just how important it is. |
Cliff Schezar pulls down on the pink rope that hangs over the coffee table. The red curtain pulls aside, revealing Marianne Aura Cayzen, a blond woman in a pink and white dress. Marianne stands demurely with her eyes down and her hands clasped. Vash rushes over to a chair and sits. He leans forward on his hands, his expression determined.
Cliff Schezar: Her name is Marianne Aura Cayzen. Granddaughter of the director of the Stantal Federal Bureau, and a guest at my home. | Cliff Schezar: Her name is Marianne Aura Cayzen. She’s the granddaughter of the head of the Stantal Federal Bureau and she’s staying at the mansion as my guest. |
Meryl Stryfe and Milly Thompson nod in surprise. Vash the Stampede smiles and blushes. Marianne Aura Cayzen walks forward and smiles. Meryl looks at Vash, who now wears a mischievous expression. He makes a grabbing gesture with his left hand. Meryl groans in disgust.
Cliff Schezar: The truth is, someone attempted to break in here 5 days ago. I wouldn’t hire a bodyguard if I were the only one in danger, but I want to avoid anything happening to her. That is why I need your help. | Cliff Schezar: The truth is, we had an attempted break-in five days ago and frankly I’m a little worried. I wouldn’t have hired a bodyguard if I thought they were coming after me, but Marianne’s safety is my responsibility and I do not want anything happening to her. Well now you know the whole story, and that is why I need your help. |
Vash the Stampede is once again drawn in the style of a romance manga.
Vash the Stampede: You can count on me, Mr. Cliff. Meryl Stryfe: (groans in disgust) Vash the Stampede: I don’t let anyone in my sights get away… and my bullets never miss their mark. | Vash the Stampede: You can definitely count on me, Mr. Cliff Meryl Stryfe: (groans in disgust) Vash the Stampede: I don’t let anyone in my sights get away and I’m known for my bullets never missing their mark. |
Vash the Stampede makes a finger gun. Meryl Stryfe continues to make exaggerated expressions and sounds of disgust.
Vash the Stampede: Especially if it’s the heart of a beautiful lady. | Vash the Stampede: Especially if it’s the heart of a beautiful lady. |
Vash the Stampede pretends to fire his finger gun.
Vash the Stampede: Bang! | Vash the Stampede: Bang! |
Meryl Stryfe lets out one final cry and collapses, as if shot in the heart with pure disgust. Vash the Stampede looks at his finger gun curiously as if it actually shot her. Milly Thompson hovers over Meryl, concerned.
Milly Thompson: Ma’am! Marianne Aura Cayzen: l-I know I can depend on you, Mr. Vash. | Milly Thompson: Meryl you okay? Marianne Aura Cayzen: I’m, happy to have you protect me Mr. Vash. I really am. |
Vash the Stampede rubs the back of his head.
Vash the Stampede: A lot of people say that! Cliff Schezar: I see. Do they now? (laughs) Vash the Stampede: Yeah, all the time! (laughs) | Vash the Stampede: Oh? Yeah, a lot of people say that, I hear it all the time. Cliff Schezar: Is that right? I believe it. (laughs) Vash the Stampede: Yeah they really do. (laughs) |
Milly Thompson peeking down over the side of the couch. Meryl Stryfe lies on the floor, still pretending to be dying of disgust, one arm outstretched and one over her heart. Meryl slaps her own forehead.
Milly Thompson: Ma’am! Ma’am! | Milly Thompson: Hey Meryl, you need help? |
I’m The One Doing The Deceiving
JPN -> ENG Subtitles | English Dub |
Meryl Stryfe leads Cliff Schezar over to the curtains.
Meryl Stryfe: Come here for a moment. | Meryl Stryfe: I need to talk to you. (whispers) |
Meryl Stryfe and Cliff Schezar stand behind the curtains.
Cliff Schezar: What’s the matter? | Cliff Schezar: What’s the matter my dear? |
Meryl Stryfe puts her hands on Cliff Schezar’s shoulders.
Meryl Stryfe: Mr. Cliff, listen very carefully. Does that man look like the legendary gunman, Vash the Stampede?! | Meryl Stryfe: Listen to me Mr. Cliff. I, think you’re a nice man. How can you believe that weird guy out there is Vash the Stampede, the Legendary Gunman? |
Outside the curtains, the others can still hear Meryl Stryfe talking.
Meryl Stryfe: That droopy-eyed, weak-looking, bristle-headed, promiscuous-looking donut freak of a man?! Milly Thompson: She bought the donuts. Vash the Stampede: And we can hear every word. | Meryl Stryfe: That droopy eyed, cocky, upside-down haired, woman chasing, lunatic, who’s nuts for donuts and gorges them like a starved hog in heat, you honestly think it’s him!? Milly Thompson: She’s really very nice. She bought the donuts. Vash the Stampede: She’s really very nice and loud. |
Meryl Stryfe angrily points her finger at Cliff Schezar.
Meryl Stryfe: I’m saying you’re being deceived by that man! Cliff Schezar: I’m the one doing the deceiving. Meryl Stryfe: eh? Cliff Schezar: You saw the town. All it took was the rumor that my bodyguard was Vash the Stampede. The rabble after me will panic just as much. | Meryl Stryfe: I am telling you for the last time, you are being deceived by that man! Cliff Schezar: On the contrary, I’m doing the deceiving. Meryl Stryfe: Huh? Cliff Schezar: I think you’ve got a good look at the city. With that kind of mess out there, all it took was a simple little rumor that Vash the Stampede was working for me as a bodyguard. The townsfolk panicked and headed for the hills, and I’m expecting my enemy to do the same. |
In a black and white flashback, Vash the Stampede Vash opens the door to the Schezar manor. He is holding a the rolled-up ad. He gives a cheerful smile.
Vash the Stampede: Afternoon! Your ad caught my eye! | Vash the Stampede: Hello! This ad of your caught my eye |
Cliff Schezar walks forward and takes Vash’s right hand in both his hands. He shakes Vash’s hand.
Cliff Schezar: Congratulations! You are now Vash the Stampede! Vash the Stampede: Wha’? Cliff Schezar: Hello, Vash the Stampede! | Cliff Schezar: Well congratulations, as of today you are now Vash the Stampede. Vash the Stampede: Huh? Cliff Schezar: Vash the Stampede, it’s a pleasure to meet you |
In the present, Meryl Stryfe is looking at Cliff Schezar in horror.
Cliff Schezar: Anybody would have done. Meryl Stryfe: I see. It’s a huge inconvenience, but your plan is very clear to me now. Cliff Schezar: Originally, I didn’t want it to go this far… | Cliff Schezar: It could’ve been anybody, he just showed up Meryl Stryfe: (groans) I see, he’s a huge inconvenience but using him in your plan this way makes a lot more sense. Cliff Schezar: Actually this whole thing has gone a lot further than expected. |
Cliff Schezar points his finger at Meryl Stryfe.
Cliff Schezar: …but the man after me is a blond packing a silver weapon, and he’s quite the ace! | Cliff Schezar: The scoundrel who’s been after me is a tall blonde man packing a silver weapon and a reputation as an ace gunfighter. |
Meryl Stryfe gasps in surprise. She walks out of the curtained area and faces Milly Thompson, her right fist raised in excitement.
Meryl Stryfe: Did you hear, Milly? Milly Thompson: Yes, every word!! Meryl Stryfe: This is an unbelievable windfall! | Meryl Stryfe: Did you hear that Milly? Milly Thompson: Yes I did, every word. Meryl Stryfe: This is an absolute godsend. |
Cliff Schezar walks out from the curtained area and stands next to Meryl Stryfe.
Marianne Aura Cayzen: They really are delightful. Vash the Stampede: It’s best not to burst the bubble of an airhead. Meryl Stryfe: Mr. Cliff! If you don’t mind, please let us be your bodyguards too! | Marianne Aura Cayzen: What humorous people they are. Vash the Stampede: Yeah it’s usually best just to leave airheads alone. Meryl Stryfe: Hey you know Mr. Cliff, if you don’t mind, my partner Milly and I would like to be your bodyguards too, for extra protection. |
Meryl Stryfe points with her thumb at Vash the Stampede.
Meryl Stryfe: Naturally, we won’t demand a fee like that greedy faker over there! | Meryl Stryfe: Only naturally, we won’t demand a fee like that greedy faker over there, so there’d be no risk to you whatsoever. |
Marianne Aura Cayzen’s expression sobers.
Cliff Schezar: That’s fine by me. Meryl Stryfe: Thank you, sir! | Cliff Schezar: Haha, well that’d be fine with me. Meryl Stryfe: Thank you sir, you won’t be sorry. |
Kitchen Duty
JPN -> ENG Subtitles | English Dub |
Meryl Stryfe and Milly Thompson are in the kitchen. Meryl stirs a large pot of soup and Milly washes the dishes.
Meryl Stryfe: Is this what bodyguards do? Milly Thompson: Every great journey must begin with a single enormous step. | Meryl Stryfe: This is not what I expected to do as a bodyguard. Milly Thompson: Every journey starts with a single step, we just have to have patience. |
Vash the Stampede leans in through the kitchen door.
Vash the Stampede: Is it ready yet? | Vash the Stampede: Is it ready yet? |
Meryl Stryfe stops stirring.
Meryl Stryfe: We will serve up shortly. Vash the Stampede: Ooh, scary. Later. | Meryl Stryfe: We’ll take it out when it is. Vash the Stampede: Wow, scare-y. Later! |
Vash the Stampede ducks back out with a wave. Meryl Stryfe clenches her fist in anger.
Meryl Stryfe: Nothing has gone right since we met him. Milly Thompson: Really? I’m having a wonderful time! | Meryl Stryfe: I’d like to show that guy something scary, nothing has gone right since we met him Milly Thompson: I don’t think that’s true at all |
Meryl Stryfe looks over and sees Milly Thompson is drinking water directly from the tap.
Milly Thompson: And we get all the water we want! | Milly Thompson: I’m having a wonderful time. Plus we get to have all the water we can drink. |
Meryl Stryfe sighs. |

JPN -> ENG Subtitles | English Dub |
Vash the Stampede walks up the stairs and into the upstairs hallway.
Vash the Stampede: She’s so short-tempered. | Vash the Stampede: Boy has she got a short fuse. |
Vash the Stampede stops at a door. He reaches for the doorknob and pauses. He hears the sound of running water.
Vash the Stampede: The sound of water rings in my ear. And the room next to me is Marianne’s. | Vash the Stampede: I can hear the sound of running water. And I believe it’s coming from the shower in Marianne’s room. |
Vash the Stampede stands on the roof and ties a rope around his waist.
Vash the Stampede: Lifeline secure! | Vash the Stampede: Lifeline secured. |
Vash the Stampede puts a gloved finger in his mouth, then raises his finger to test the wind.
Vash the Stampede: Wind, favorable! The plan is perfect. | Vash the Stampede: Wind favorable, the plan is perfect. |
Vash the Stampede pounds his chest with his right hand.
Vash the Stampede: Guts, steeled! I’m coming, Marianne! | Vash the Stampede: I’ve got the guts. I’m coming Marianne! |
Vash the Stampede dives off the roof. He falls past the bathroom window, then pulls himself back up to be level with the window, hanging upside down. He looks into the bathroom and is surprised to find it empty. Milly Thompson knocks on the door.
Milly Thompson: Miss Marianne, supper is ready! Huh? | Milly Thompson: Miss Marianne, supper is re- Wha- Where are you? Oh. |
Milly Thompson looks around, confused by Marianne Aura Cayzen’s absence. Milly sees Vash the Stampede hanging upside down outside the window. He smiles and waves at Milly.
Vash the Stampede: Hello! | Vash the Stampede: Hello! |
Milly Thompson smiles and waves back.
Milly Thompson: Hello! | Milly Thompson: Hello. |
Vash sighs and lets go of the rope, letting his arms hang down. Milly Thompson opens the window.
Milly Thompson: What are you doing out there? Vash the Stampede: O-Oh, I’m diligently patrolling the roof for evil spooks. Milly Thompson: That sounds scary! Bodyguards sure are busy people! Water Rights
JPN -> ENG Subtitles | English Dub |
Meryl Stryfe is carrying a green lidded pot. Through a window, she sees Marianne Aura Cayzen sneaking out of a room. Meryl ducks back from the window so Marianne can’t see her. Once Marianne is gone, Meryl goes up to the room Marianne left.
Meryl Stryfe: (thinking) This is Mr. Cliff’s study. Miss Marianne? | Meryl Stryfe: (thinking) This is, Mr. Cliff’s study. Marianne? |
Vash the Stampede, Cliff Schezar, and Marianne Aura Cayzen sit together at the dinner table, eating a luxurious dinner.
Vash the Stampede: This place sure is fancy! Is water that profitable? Cliff Schezar: We’ve had a drought for the past several years. | Vash the Stampede: Ah this place sure is fancy. Is water really that profitable Mr. Cliff? Cliff Schezar: There’s been a drought for the past few years. |
Cliff Schezar weaves his fingers together.
Cliff Schezar: I’m able to enjoy a few luxuries because my father, who was a plant engineer, purchased land with a water supply. Vash the Stampede: I bet a lot of people are jealous. Cliff Schezar: Yes, the rabble who are after the rights. | Cliff Schezar: I’m very lucky to been able to enjoy a few luxuries because my father, who’s a plant engineer, purchased land with a water supply. It’s a rare commodity around here. Vash the Stampede: I’d imagine that would tend to make a lot of people jealous. Cliff Schezar: Yup, I’m afraid a lot of folks want my water rights. |
Cliff Schezar puts his hands back on the table.
Cliff Schezar: They probably think I’m monopolizing the water. But I have something to say to them. Water is not limitless. Unless it is managed properly, it will dry up. Marianne Aura Cayzen: But it doesn’t change the fact you’re profiting from a natural resource. | Cliff Schezar: Apparently they think I’m monopolizing it for selfish reasons and don’t want to share the wealth with them. But the water supply is not limitless, unless it’s managed properly by someone who knows how, it will completely dry up! Marianne Aura Cayzen: But it doesn’t change the fact that you’re profiting from a natural resource. |
Marianne Aura Cayzen looks away.
Marianne Aura Cayzen: I’m sorry, it’s not my business. Cliff Schezar: No, you’re quite right. But I can’t let the water be stolen by thoughtless people. They may call me a coward, but I intend to protect the water. Vash the Stampede: That’s very admirable! | Marianne Aura Cayzen: I’m sorry, it’s none of my business Cliff Schezar: No you’re absolutely right my dear. But I can’t let the water be stolen by reckless people who don’t care if it dries up. They may call me a coward, but I intend to do what it takes to protect the water. Vash the Stampede: That’s most admirable Mr. Cliff. |
Marianne Aura Cayzen suddenly stands up.
Marianne Aura Cayzen: Mr. Cliff, I don’t feel well. Please excuse me. | Marianne Aura Cayzen: Please excuse me Mr. Cliff. I’m not feeling very well. I think I’m going to go to bed early. |
Marianne Aura Cayzen leaves. Vash the Stampede watches her go with a frozen smile. Cliff Schezar weaves his fingers together again.
Cliff Schezar: She may look calm, but she’s probably ill at ease. I probably shouldn’t have invited her here. Vash the Stampede: I see. | Cliff Schezar: She may look calm, but she’s probably feeling quite ill at ease. Perhaps, it was not such a good idea to invite her here. Vash the Stampede: Uh, I suppose. |
Vash the Stampede stands up.
Vash the Stampede: Well, I think I’ll go make the rounds! I can at least act like a real bodyguard. | Vash the Stampede: Well! I think I’ll make the rounds and make sure this place is secure. I should at least pretend to look like a real bodyguard. |
Vash the Stampede starts to leave.
Cliff Schezar: I’ve instructed Marianne to keep her curtain drawn. | Cliff Schezar: As an extra safety measure, I’ve asked Marianne to keep her curtain drawn. |
Vash the Stampede stops with a panicked expression.
Vash the Stampede: Oh, please! I would never dream of… | Vash the Stampede: You! Ah! I would never dream of doing anything like- |
Vash the Stampede stops himself from talking by punching himself in the face, leaving his cheek swollen.
Vash the Stampede: I mean, I cannot comprehend what you are implying. | Vash the Stampede: I mean, good thinking. Very sensible idea Mr. Cliff. |
Vash the Stampede gives a loud and fake laugh as he inches out of the room sideways.
Vash the Stampede: Later. | Vash the Stampede: Later! |
Vash the Stampede leaves the room. Cliff Schezar looks after him with a pained expression. Bumper/Eyecatch: Vash the Stampede is seated, his prosthetic arm clearly visible and the tails of his coat splayed around him. He holds his gun pointed down. |
No Sleep Tonight
JPN -> ENG Subtitles | English Dub |
Outside the manor Meryl Stryfe and Milly Thompson sit on the edge of a fountain. They eat sandwiches from boxes.
Milly Thompson: I’m exhausted from all that cooking. Meryl Stryfe: We’re just getting started. We never know when he’ll show up. There will be no sleep tonight. | Milly Thompson: I’m really exhausted, Meryl, from all the cooking we had to do today. Meryl Stryfe: This is only the beginning. There’s no telling when the culprit will show up, we have to be alert in our duties. There’ll be no sleeping for us tonight. |
Meryl Stryfe and Milly Thompson continue to eat their sandwiches.
Milly Thompson: If it’s not him, this has been a nuclear waste of time | Milly Thompson: If he doesn’t show up, this will really be a wasted effort. |
Journey Of The Heart
JPN -> ENG Subtitles | English Dub |
In her bedroom, Marianne Aura Cayzen unzips the back of her dress, revealing bloodied bandages around her shoulder and back.
Vash the Stampede: May I come in? | Vash the Stampede: May I come in? |
Marianne Aura Cayzen quickly pulls her dress back over her shoulder and zips it back up. There is a gun in a drawer and she pushes it closed.
Marianne Aura Cayzen: Just a minute! | Marianne Aura Cayzen: One moment please. |
Marianne Aura Cayzen walks to the window. She pulls open the curtains and opens the window, then looks up.
Marianne Aura Cayzen: Come in! | Marianne Aura Cayzen: Come in. |
Vash the Stampede opens the bedroom door.
Vash the Stampede: Excuse me. | Vash the Stampede: Excuse me. |
Marianne Aura Cayzen gasps in surprise and turns to face Vash the Stampede.
Vash the Stampede: Is something wrong? Marianne Aura Cayzen: Er, no! | Vash the Stampede: Is something wrong? Marianne Aura Cayzen: Uh, no? |
The night sky outside is filled with stars. Lilting, romantic music plays.
Vash the Stampede: Were you gazing at the stars? Marianne Aura Cayzen: Y-Yes. I was thinking of home, even though none of the thoughts were pleasant. Vash the Stampede: Thoughts of home are proof of a journey of the heart. | Vash the Stampede: Were you looking at the stars? Marianne Aura Cayzen: Ahaha yes. I was thinking of my home and my family. Even though most of my memories there are unpleasant ones. Vash the Stampede: Thoughts of home, whether good or bad, are positive indicators of a journey of the heart. |
Marianne Aura Cayzen gives him an uncomfortable glance and laughs weakly.
Marianne Aura Cayzen: I actually wanted to travel by myself here and there, but I couldn’t persuade my father. So, I go from house to house, staying with his friends. (giggles) This is hardly what I call a journey. | Marianne Aura Cayzen: It’s always been my dream to travel by myself, to any place I want, but I could never persuade my father to let me do it, so I’ve only been allowed to stay at the homes of his closest friends. (giggles) This is hardly what I’d call a journey of the heart, you know? |
Vash the Stampede wears a serious, romantic expression. Marianne Aura Cayzen looks at him, surprised.
Marianne Aura Cayzen: Um… | Marianne Aura Cayzen: |
Vash the Stampede takes Marianne Aura Cayzen by the shoulder with both hands. He unknowingly squeezes her shoulder wound. She grits her teeth against the pain.
Vash the Stampede: Someday you will be able to go on a real journey. Although it may not be a lone one. Marianne Aura Cayzen: Oh, but what do you mean by that? | Vash the Stampede: Someday, you’ll be able to take a journey to anywhere you desire. Although it may not exactly be by yourself. Marianne Aura Cayzen: I’m not sure I understand what you mean by that. |
Marianne Aura Cayzen looks uncomfortable. She turns away.
Marianne Aura Cayzen: I saw something move! | Marianne Aura Cayzen: Oh, I think I just saw something move. |
Vash the Stampede is upset by the interruption.
Marianne Aura Cayzen: There it is again! | Marianne Aura Cayzen: There it is again! |
Vash the Stampede sighs in resignation. He puts on a serious expression again.
Vash the Stampede: Wait here, I’ll go have a look. Marianne Aura Cayzen: Are you sure? Vash the Stampede: It’s my job ma’am. | Vash the Stampede: Stand back, I’ll go look. Marianne Aura Cayzen: But… Vash the Stampede: It’s my job. |
Vash the Stampede jumps out of Marianne Aura Cayzen room window and lands on the cobblestones, then runs.
Vash the Stampede: (thinking) Dammit! | Vash the Stampede: (thinking) Dammit! |
Marianne Aura Cayzen frowns angrily. She clutches her shoulder.
Marianne Aura Cayzen: That hurt, you oaf! | Marianne Aura Cayzen: That hurt you stupid, idiot! |
The Culprits
JPN -> ENG Subtitles | English Dub |
Vash the Stampede leaps forward. He crashes into Meryl Stryfe and Milly Thompson, knocking them over. Meryl shrieks.
Vash the Stampede: Stay still! | Vash the Stampede: Stay still! |
Vash the Stampede pulls Meryl Stryfe up by her right wrist and left arm. She screams and writhes.
Meryl Stryfe: Eek! He’s here! It’s Vash the Stampede!! Let go of me, or I’ll sue… You? | Meryl Stryfe: He’s here! It’s Vash the Stampede! Let go of me, I’ll sue you! You have no idea who you’re dealing with! Why are you doing- huh? Uh- |
Meryl Stryfe opens her eyes and realizes who is holding her.
Meryl Stryfe: Hey, what are you doing to me?! Vash the Stampede: Aw, it’s just you. Meryl Stryfe: What do you mean, “just” me?! Vash the Stampede: I wanted to chew out whoever interrupted my debate of a fructuous future with Marianne. Meryl Stryfe: So what did I do?! Besides, do you really have a clean conscience? | Meryl Stryfe: Hey! Why the hell did you just attack me, you maniac? Vash the Stampede: Oh gee, it’s only you. Meryl Stryfe: What do you mean it’s only me. How rude! Vash the Stampede: Marianne and I were having a heated discussion about our future when we were interrupted by the sound of an intruder. I just came out to investigate. Meryl Stryfe: So what did I ever do to you? Now that you’ve apprehended the intruder, do you feel like you have a nice, clean conscience? |
Vash the Stampede blushes.
Vash the Stampede: Not where Marianne is concerned… | Vash the Stampede: Well not when it comes to Marianne. |
Milly Thompson is watching them and eating her sandwich.
Milly Thompson: I had no idea you two were so friendly, ma’am. Meryl Stryfe: Have you been paying attention?! | Milly Thompson: Gee Meryl, I had no idea the two of you were on such friendly terms. Meryl Stryfe: Have you been paying any attention at all? |
Vash the Stampede releases Meryl Stryfe. He waves up at Marianne Aura Cayzen’s window.
Vash the Stampede: Miss Marianne, don’t worry your little head! I caught the culprit! Meryl Stryfe: Who are you calling a culprit? | Vash the Stampede: Hey Miss Marianne! You don’t have to worry your little head! I have captured the culprits so all is safe and well for you again. Meryl Stryfe: Just who are you calling a culprit? |
Vash the Stampede realizes that Marianne Aura Cayzen is gone from the window.
Vash the Stampede: Nuh? | Vash the Stampede: Huh? |
That Kind Of Girl
JPN -> ENG Subtitles | English Dub |
Vash the Stampede looks inside several different rooms.
Meryl Stryfe: Anything? Vash the Stampede: Not a trace. Meryl Stryfe: What’s going on? Both Miss Marianne and Mr. Cliff are missing. Vash the Stampede: You think they were kidnapped?! Meryl Stryfe: We were outside the entire time. That’s impossible. | Meryl Stryfe: Anything? Vash the Stampede: No Meryl Stryfe: I don’t understand what’s going on. Both Miss Marianne and Mr. Cliff have just disappeared, apparently without a trace. Vash the Stampede: Do you think that they were kidnapped? Meryl Stryfe: We were outside the entire time, I think that’s pretty much impossible. |
Vash the Stampede clasps his hands together.
Vash the Stampede: I’m so worried! Milly Thompson: Ma’am, they’re nowhere to be found! Meryl Stryfe: What’s that? | Vash the Stampede: Aww I’m so worried about them. Milly Thompson: Meryl! They’re nowhere to be found. Meryl Stryfe: What is that? |
Milly Thompson walks up to Meryl Stryfe and Vash the Stampede. Milly is holding a pink and white dress and some bloody bandages.
Milly Thompson: Miss Marianne’s dress and some bandages. Meryl Stryfe: An attempted break-in 5 days ago… A discarded dress and bloody bandages… Miss Marianne entering Mr. Cliff’s study… That’s more than enough circumstantial evidence. Vash the Stampede: You’re wrong!! Marianne isn’t that kind of girl! Meryl Stryfe: How can you be so sure? Vash the Stampede: Ahem. | Milly Thompson: Miss Marianne’s dress and some bloody bandages. Meryl Stryfe: There was a man that tried to break in five days ago, then we find a discarded dress and some bloody bandages, and finally Miss Marianne was seen sneaking around and entering Mr. Cliff’s study. Well there’s more than enough evidence here to support the fact that Marianne has been after him. Vash the Stampede: You’re wrong! It can’t be! Marianne just isn’t that kind of girl Meryl Stryfe: How can you be so sure? |
Vash the Stampede is drawn in a romance manga style. He sparkles.
Vash the Stampede: I can tell. Marianne has a beautiful heart. Meryl Stryfe: You’re the easily deceived type who sleeps on a tear-soaked pillow. | Vash the Stampede: From the moment I saw her, from the look in her eyes, Miss Marianne has a beautiful heart. Meryl Stryfe: You’re the easily deceived type who cries himself to sleep every night, aren’t you? |
Vash the Stampede puts his hands on his hips.
Vash the Stampede: Dream wrecker. Milly Thompson: I know! A ghost got her! Vash the Stampede and Meryl Stryfe: Huh? Milly Thompson: You said yourself there were evil spooks on the roof. Vash the Stampede: Uh, that was… Er… | Vash the Stampede: Tsk, thanks a lot, dream-wrecker. Milly Thompson: I know, a ghost must’ve gotten Miss Marianne. Vash the Stampede and Meryl Stryfe: Huh? Milly Thompson: You said yourself there were spooks on the roof when I saw you by the window Vash the Stampede: Uh, that was, I mean uhh, what I meant was, you know, spooks there are… |
Vash the Stampede walks backwards and falls over the couch.
Vash the Stampede: By spooks, I meant… | Vash the Stampede: Er, spooks, you know… |
Vash the Stampede draws circles on the couch with his finger, embarrassed.
Meryl Stryfe: What’s this about the roof? Milly Thompson: Well, actually, etc, etc… Vash the Stampede: By spooks, I meant… you know… Meryl Stryfe: Hey! | Meryl Stryfe: What’s this about the roof? Vash the Stampede: Around… everywhere and… Milly Thompson: He was hanging outside the window by Miss Marianne’s bathroom. Meryl Stryfe: Aha! |
Vash the Stampede stands at attention.
Vash the Stampede: Yes, ma’am!! | Vash the Stampede: Yes! |
Meryl Stryfe leans over Vash the Stampede, furious.
Meryl Stryfe: What were you doing peeking into a lady’s room?! Vash the Stampede: Wait, time out! | Meryl Stryfe: Just what the hell do you think you were doing, peeking into a lady’s room, you disgusting sicko? Vash the Stampede: Eh wait! Time out! Time out! |
Vash the Stampede leans backwards.
Meryl Stryfe: Whatever you’ve done, you won’t get away with it! | Meryl Stryfe: You may think you’re slick Mr. Hotpants, but you’re not going to get away with it this time |
Vash the Stampede’s arms windmill backwards.
Vash the Stampede: Time out, I said! Time out! | Vash the Stampede: Woah wait! Time out! Time out! |
Vash the Stampede falls over the back of the couch. He grabs the pink rope to catch himself, and the curtains retract. Vash lets out a sound of surprise. He falls on the floor, pulling the rope fully down, and hidden door in the wall slides open. A secret entrance is revealed, leading to a rocky tunnel. Everyone gasps. |
Marshall Marianne
JPN -> ENG Subtitles | English Dub |
Deep underground, Marianne Aura Cayzen runs through the rocky tunnel. She’s wearing a red uniform and her hair is pulled back into a ponytail, revealing that she is the mysterious figure who attacked Cliff Schezar. She has a silver gun in her right hand. An underground river runs through the tunnel, leading to a large water storage area. The cavernous space contains a lake, pumping machines, and ice machines. Marianne slows and walks carefully, and a marshall’s badge is pinned to her chest.
Marianne Aura Cayzen: I thought as much. Cliff Schezar: Such a naughty little princess! | Marianne Aura Cayzen: I knew he wasn’t telling the whole truth. Cliff Schezar: What a naughty little princess. |
Marianne Aura Cayzen gasps. Cliff Schezar steps out from the shadows, smirking. He’s pointing a handgun at her.
Cliff Schezar: Even pranks have a limit. | Cliff Schezar: Even pranks have a limit. |
Cliff Schezar sees Marianne Aura Cayzen‘s marshall’s badge.
Cliff Schezar: So they’ve started recruiting kids? Marianne Aura Cayzen: Thanks to your monopolization of the water, the land in this area is all dead! Do you know how many people have suffered because of you?! Cliff Schezar: And so you came to get proof? | Cliff Schezar: Ha, so now they’ve started using kids to do their dirty work. Marianne Aura Cayzen: Thanks to your selfish monopolization of the water supply, all of the land in this area has dried up and died! Do you have any idea of how many people have suffered because of your greed? Cliff Schezar: So little Miss Marianne comes to get the evidence? |
Cliff Schezar waves his gun around.
Cliff Schezar: Cheap sense of justice. | Cliff Schezar: Justice doesn’t come that cheap. |
Marianne Aura Cayzen opens her gun into a crossbow. Before she can load it, she groans in pain and grips her shoulder.
Cliff Schezar: Oh, that’s right… I shot you. | Cliff Schezar: That’s right, I almost forgot. I shot you. |
Cliff Schezar hits Marianne Aura Cayzen in the head with his gun. She cries out and falls to the ground. Her crossbow clatters away.
Cliff Schezar: The townspeople have all fled so there will be no witnesses. | Cliff Schezar: The people have all evacuated, so there’ll be no witnesses. |
Cliff Schezar kicks Marianne Aura Cayzen hard. She grunts in pain.
Cliff Schezar: I was right to spread the rumor of Vash the Stampede. | Cliff Schezar: Spreading the rumor of Vash the Stampede did my business a world of good. |
Cliff Schezar presses his foot into Marianne Aura Cayzen wounded shoulder. She grunts in pain.
Cliff Schezar: An investment must always pay off. Do you think I’d let this ruin me? | Cliff Schezar: I have far too much invested in this place to allow the likes of you to come in and ruin things for me. |
Cliff Schezar aims his gun at Marianne Aura Cayzen.
Cliff Schezar: Game over. | Cliff Schezar: Game over, Marianne. |
You’re A Bad Shot
JPN -> ENG Subtitles | English Dub |
Vash the Stampede: (screams) | Vash the Stampede: Look out below! |
Vash the Stampede flails as he rolls down the water slide. He splashes down out of view, then pulls himself up. He waves to Marianne Aura Cayzen and laughs.
Vash the Stampede: You okay? Marianne Aura Cayzen: Oaf. | Vash the Stampede: Are you alright? Marianne Aura Cayzen: Idiot. |
Meryl Stryfe and Milly Thompson stand at the top of the water slide, watching as they hide behind a wall.
Meryl Stryfe: Is that what he meant by sneaking up from behind?! Milly Thompson: Now it’s gone from pinch to overflow. Meryl Stryfe: Really! We can’t lift a finger now! | Meryl Stryfe: Is that what he meant when he said he was gonna sneak up behind him? Milly Thompson: This mess has gone from spill to overflow. Meryl Stryfe: Great, under these conditions, there’s absolutely nothing we can do now. |
Vash the Stampede notices the water tanks.
Vash the Stampede: That explains your little luxuries. | Vash the Stampede: Oh? Well this explains your little luxuries. |
Cliff Schezar points his gun at Vash the Stampede.
Cliff Schezar: Wasting more of my time! Marianne Aura Cayzen: Run, quickly! | Cliff Schezar: Ha, you’re wasting my time here. Marianne Aura Cayzen: Run! Get out of here! Quick! Hurry! |
Vash the Stampede’s eyes go comically wide. Single tears well up in the corners of his eyes. He blushes with happiness.
Vash the Stampede: Thank goodness! | Vash the Stampede: Thank goodness! |
Marianne Aura Cayzen looks at Vash the Stampede with confusion. Tears stream down Vash’s face as he clenches his right fist.
Vash the Stampede: You’re the girl I thought you were!! | Vash the Stampede: I knew it, you are the girl I thought you were. |
Marianne Aura Cayzen quirks her eyebrow sceptically. Vash stops crying and jumps up onto the ground. He straightens up with a serious look. Cliff Schezar smirks, still aiming his gun at Vash.
Cliff Schezar: Very brave. | Cliff Schezar: Well, very brave. |
Vash the Stampede’s face is serious as he stares Cliff Schezar down. Schezar’s finger tightens on the trigger. He fires, but Vash dodges the bullet impossibly fast. Everyone gasps in astonishment. Vash’s face transforms into an exaggerated look of shock.
Vash the Stampede: Yeek! Cliff Schezar: Damn. | Vash the Stampede: Scary! Cliff Schezar: Damn. |
Cliff Schezar fires his gun and Vash the Stampede dodges every bullet, making silly noises the whole time. Meryl Stryfe, Milly Thompson and Marianne Aura Cayzen watch, wide-eyed and gasping. Cliff continues shooting and Vash continues dodging.
Cliff Schezar: What, is he predicting my shots through gun movements and timing? | Cliff Schezar: e reads the trajectories of the bullets by watching the gun move, it’s a timing, insane! |
Vash the Stampede leans up close to Cliff Schezar, practically nose-to-nose, mock-serious.
Vash the Stampede: No, you’re a bad shot. | Vash the Stampede: Just no skill. |
Vash the Stampede flicks Cliff Schezar hard on the nose. Cliff stumbles back from the force and holds his nose in pain.
Cliff Schezar: W-Who the hell are you? | Cliff Schezar: Ye-ow! What the hell are you, anyway? |
Vash the Stampede smiles. He has Cliff Schezar‘s gun in his left hand.
Vash the Stampede: I’m your ace bodyguard. Cliff Schezar: Not bad. I was right when I chose to hire you. | Vash the Stampede: I’m your bodyguard, and ace gunman. Just as advertised. Cliff Schezar: Hahaha, not bad. I guess I was right after all, when I chose to hire you. |
Cliff Schezar opens his coat. He has four guns attached to contraptions on his shoulders and hips. The guns are cocked and ready.
Cliff Schezar: Don’t you agree? | Cliff Schezar: Don’t you agree? |
Vash the Stampede looks at Cliff Schezar in surprise. The guns fire and Vash jumps out of the way. The bullets hit the ice instead, breaking off shards. Without looking back, Vash catches a large shard of ice and throws it at Cliff. Cliff cries out in pain and leans back, and his guns fire at the water pumps. The machinery sparks with electricity. Vash lands in a crouch. Cliff glares at the guns under his coat as they fire on empty chambers.
Cliff Schezar: You…! Vash the Stampede: I’ve protected your guest, as requested. | Cliff Schezar: How dare you? Vash the Stampede: As requested, I have protected your guest Mr. Cliff. |
Vash the Stampede gives a thumbs up to Marianne Aura Cayzen. Marianne reaches towards him in surprise.
Marianne Aura Cayzen: Look! | Marianne Aura Cayzen: But, look, there! |
Vash the Stampede turns in confusion. He sees the tanks smoking and sparking.
Vash the Stampede: You’re kidding!! | Vash the Stampede: Huh? |
Vash the Stampede screams in alarm. Meryl Stryfe gapes at the tank while Milly Thompson smiles.
Milly Thompson: We did it, ma’am! | Milly Thompson: Hey guess what Meryl? He did it. |
Meryl Stryfe puts her hands on her cheeks, horrified.
Meryl Stryfe: Now is not the time to say that!! | Meryl Stryfe: Shut up! This is no time for congratulations. |
Black smoke bellows as the electricity sparks in intensity. The machinery explodes. Water bursts out of the holding tank. Outside, the ground rumbles the thomases run away. The manor completely explodes. A huge wave of water and ice geysers out and floods the entire town. |
Lucky Accidents
JPN -> ENG Subtitles | English Dub |
Marianne Aura Cayzen, Vash the Stampede, Meryl Stryfe, and Milly Thompson stand on a hill above the flooded town. The two thomases are beside them. Cliff Schezar is tied up on the ground.
Marianne Aura Cayzen: It’s all right. The dammed water overflowed all at once, that’s all. It will return underground and make the town prosper again. I’m sure everyone who left will return. | Marianne Aura Cayzen: It’s alright. The dammed water just overflowed all at once, that’s all. It’s not your fault. It will return underground eventually and make the town prosper again, and I’m sure that everyone who left will be able to return to their homes. |
Marianne Aura Cayzen turns to Vash the Stampede.
Marianne Aura Cayzen: Thanks. | Marianne Aura Cayzen: I’m very grateful. |
Vash the Stampede rubs the back of his head with his left hand.
Vash the Stampede: Aw, shucks! | Vash the Stampede: You’re welcome. |
Meryl Stryfe crosses her arms and glares at Vash the Stampede.
Meryl Stryfe: It was just a series of incredibly dumb luck. Marianne Aura Cayzen: Was that bullet-dodging also luck, or did you plan it that way? Vash the Stampede: It was more like a fluke. Marianne Aura Cayzen: If you knew what you were doing, I’d be convinced that you are Vash the Stampede. | Meryl Stryfe: Come on! All it was, was a series of lucky accidents. That’s all. Marianne Aura Cayzen: Did you dodge all those bullets just by accident? Or did you do it on purpose? Vash the Stampede: I suppose it was more like a fluke actually. Marianne Aura Cayzen: Because if you did that consciously, I’m afraid that I’d really have to believe that. You are in fact, the legendary Vash the Stampede. |
Meryl Stryfe gasps in surprise. Vash the Stampede blushes faintly.
Vash the Stampede: And if I was? Marianne Aura Cayzen: I’d arrest you. | Vash the Stampede: And what if I was Vash the Stampede? Marianne Aura Cayzen: Then I’d arrest you |
Vash the Stampede gives a small laugh and shrugs, unsurprised. Marianne Aura Cayzen walks a few steps towards Meryl Stryfe and Milly Thompson.
Marianne Aura Cayzen: I have to thank you as well. Meryl Stryfe: You must be glad your job is done. We’re still at square one! | Marianne Aura Cayzen: I have the both of you to thank as well. Meryl Stryfe: You must be glad it’s over. Your job is completed. Unfortunately, we’ve just gone back to square one. |
Milly Thompson puts a hand on Meryl Stryfe’s right shoulder.
Milly Thompson: Don’t let it get to you, ma’am. | Milly Thompson: Oh Meryl. Don’t let it get to you. |
Vash the Stampede is walking away, his duffel bag slung over his shoulder.
Marianne Aura Cayzen: Are you going? | Marianne Aura Cayzen: (gasps) Are you leaving? |
Vash the Stampede waves to them without looking back.
Vash the Stampede: My work here is done. Marianne Aura Cayzen: The nameless bodyguard. He isn’t bad. A girl could fall for him. Meryl Stryfe: What?! But he’s so irresponsible! Marianne Aura Cayzen: You have no eye for men. Meryl Stryfe: Says who?! Marianne Aura Cayzen: Someday, you’ll see. Meryl Stryfe: I’d rather not see, thank you! | Vash the Stampede: My job’s done here. Marianne Aura Cayzen: There goes the bodyguard with no name. I could really fall for that guy. He’s a real man. Meryl Stryfe: What do you mean? That guy is completely irresponsible! Marianne Aura Cayzen: I’m afraid you have no eye for men. Meryl Stryfe: Says who? Marianne Aura Cayzen: Maybe someday I’ll show you, then you’ll see. Meryl Stryfe: I have absolutely no desire to see, thank you very much! |
Milly Thompson puts her hand on Meryl Stryfe’s left shoulder.
Milly Thompson: Don’t let it get to you, ma’am! | Milly Thompson: Now Meryl, don’t let it get to you. |
Vash the Stampede sighs, disappointed.
Vash the Stampede: I was so sure it’d work out. She was such a cutie, but it wouldn’t work out. I don’t wanna be arrested. This one will probably be blamed on me, too. Aw, man! (sighs) | Vash the Stampede: I was so sure it would work out this time. She was such a cutie, but I guess there’s no way it could have worked. I don’t want to get arrested. This one will probably be blamed on me too. Aw man. (sighs) |
