Contnuation of my review for Vol02! Watch out, this is NOT spoiler free for the end of Trimax!

hehe I think it is funny how Legato is described as being “almost sickeningly pretty”. He really looks like the tightmouthed, mysterious super pretty seme character from old 90s yaoi mangas.

OKAY finally we get to Wolfwood. I love you, little man. And let me point out how gorgeous this page is. The idea to make the horizon line curved!! The simple rediction of details, how the shadow almost completely covers all of him, how he is litterally with one foot in his grave. I’m sure if you know more about christian iconography and classical paintings you could draw some parallels to this drawing when it comes to the composition of the image. Or of the symbolism of the unrelenting sun bearing down on the bearer of the cross.

Vash’s thoughts in this moment were probably something along the lines of “well another one to the party, what’s it matter”

Legato sir please open your mouth when you speak. It is really hard to discern if you are talking.

Vash’s expression here is so so cute and dear. Witnessing some unexpected kindness from a stranger on this planet, and it is moving him.

Also Wolfwood’s smile is so genuine! I love how directly we get to see that he is at the core, a really good guy actually. These panels are also wonderfully done. I love how the legs beneath frame the two. Also I love how these panels work completely without text!! Something I need to remind myself of too. Show, don’t tell.

Aaah the classical “talking about one thing then cutting directly to that thing without directly revealing that the thing is the thing” Though in this case, Chapel is Wolfwood’s boss/mentor, so I’m guessing Legato made all the arrangements with Chapel and Wolfwood was then sent as the one assigned for the job. I mean ok we know this to be true later on, but it was a good reminder of the structures behind these organizations and such..

I wanted to point out the beautiful panel on the left! I just love the composition…it is simply a beautiful drawing.

While rereading this I could practically feel the atmosphere, the stillness and quietness in the city while the hot sun shines down, maybe a slight breeze wooshing through the streets…the calm before the storm! Very well transported in just a few panels!

Oh yeah we are finally getting some nice Wolfwood action body poses. Meaning, limbs stretching out in every direction and legs always close to a 180° angle apart. I really love that the folds and ends of the clothes are never hinted at in the black suit of Wolfwood. That’s something Nightow doesn’t do in general: If two dark spaces cross, then he just merges these to one big dark space. Because his style in general is working a lot more with shapes rather than with lines. Over the last years I learned how super important a strong silhouette is for a drawing. Nightow is definitely an artist who knows this too and from whom you can learn a lot in that regard!

I was a bit surprised that Vash was so hurt that he went unconscious here. I thought he didn’t suffer that much damage in his fight against Dominique, but what do you know!

A bit longer, but well I just love how we already get to see so much of Wolfwood, learn so much about him after having just met him! By now the reader knows he is deep down a good person, but is doing evil because he thinks he has no other choice. It is still eating him up alive…this is such a deeply human and suffering character. Also look how soft and exhausted he looks at the start of the second page when he thinks “that’s just the way it is, isn’t it?”

DANG I love that image. Brother senses tingling!

Wow, Knives rebirth is quite literally, a rebirth. And we see Legato’s total devotion to him…Knives to him is a god, a saviour, something he’ll give everything to.

Meryl is so concerned for him and possibly, also fed up with his sacrificial tour, she just slaps him! Wow girl! But in this case, Vash is in the right, this is nothing they should be around for. But I like how this shows that she actually really cares for him and really wants him to rest!

Legator sir, I don’t think your foot should be next to your face in this position.

All of these last pages of this chapter are so stunning, and have been pointed out be several people already, but this one here is SO amazing I had to point it out again. Nothing much to say apart from WOW also the wings look like insect wings! Interesting choice.

OH BOY why do you hurt us so much. Trigun repeatedly has so many pages where we are shown how Vash is nearly loosing his will to live, or has no desire, no power left to go on. And this page here…it is so so beautiful and so so sad. Here we have one character who wants nothing but to live peavefully, but is being tortured, made to suffer again and again until it breaks him. And a bit of the reader breaks with him.

I’m concluding my review with these here. Wolfwood being established as a future main character because we are being shown so much of his inner thoughts, and here again, after the moon incident, he looks so in thought, a bit like he might be trying to process the horrors he had just witnessed…a guy that was just thrown into all of this.

That’s it!! Now I really cannot wait to get to Trimax!! Love seeing everbody’s thoughts and analysis and ideas! <3
