Original Tumblr Post: TRIGUN BOOKCLUB VOL2 PART 1

TRIGUN BOOKCLUB VOL2 PART 1

My review for Vol02! Watch out, this is NOT spoiler free for the end of Trimax, because there were some minor things I wanted to point out šŸ™‚

Also phew there’s also so many nice stuf that was pointed out by some people, I’ll probably be repeating a lot of that. Also this won’t be such a deep analysis, more or less just pages and stuff that I liked!

image

I love how instantly when beginning, we get to see la creatura Vash

image

3 seconds meditation? I love how someone else wrote in their post that Vash immediatly remembers life is a bitch and then goes on to training šŸ˜€ Really sounds like that, especially with that little mouth tug

image

Ok this confused me a bit? It’s never really cleared up so I guess it’s up to the reader’s imagination, but it sounds like the shoemaker is also someone who knows how to get to a lot of infos, so maybe he has connections to the ā€œunderworldā€, or well, a network of informants maybe. I would love to get to know more about that, but well. It does help for some worldbuilding though- not everybody here is as they seem, and people do have different pasts and jobs they might not want to talk about.

image

Also a page that I love. Milly is so attentive in these first two volumes! We even get to hear her thoughts sometimes. I’m really looking forward to how she will be introduced in Tristamp. But also oh Vash, here with the fake smile agenda again.

image

SUCH a cool page! This is inside the space ship, but with the mist (I’m guessing it’s the mist from the ice capsules or smth like that) it also looks a bit like they are outside, like a sky! They are on a mission to a new planet and a new start, and I love how this page really transports that message.

image

I already said I’m not keeping this spoiler free so be aware of that!

with that said OH BOY. oh boy oh boy I want to take you in my arms for what is still to happen to you

image

another two panels that break my heart and make me love this character so much! Vash must be one of my favourite characters in media of all time, because he is not your typical shounen protagonist, nor another typical male protagonist. Already in the span of the first 2 volumes he is being shown SO vulnerable, he is crying again and again, but still struggling forward! He is like this super powerful guy but the interesting part: he doesn’t enjoy that. He is strong because he has to, but he feels so much more like the vulnerable boy, suffering and alone. Sitting alone in his cell, crying when he thinks of the death of his mother….oh man.

image

I am wondering if at the end of this page, it is implied that Rem says somthing more. I’m sure she’s not stopping just at Vash’s name, I’d guess what she might actually be saying here is more, something like ā€œVash, Knives. I love you twoā€ Because that is what a mother would say, and she does love them both equally. There’s no way she’d leave Knives out here!

image

Ahahaha I felt like making a comparison between Rem, when she thinks of Alex here in this panel. And Vash at the end of the series, when he’s about to confront Knives. God, they look so much alike!

image

This here is so well done, just look how nicely Knive’s face disapperas into the void. I think it’s a good choice that the panel border itself isn’t even visible in the darkness above the planet. Also, it really seems like one panel at the top, whereas it’s two at the bottom! A good way to connect the dark voids behind Knives with the one behind the planet…a big space void. If I had drawn such a page I would have probably tried to clearly distinguish the two panels from each other, but I like this idea much more! Reminds me to be more creative with paneling.

image

You know, Knives might be laughing here, but personally I don’t think he really feels like laughing. I think he’s desperate, and there’s no turning back after what he did and how many people he just condemned. He did plan this for sure so it wasn’t just an impulse action, but it’s something else completely to think of doing harm to others and then doing it. And he didn’t even initially want to hurt Rem, he wanted to spare her. But now that he did…he has to be in the right, because if he wasn’t, then he’d done something so completely horrible it would destroy him. So I think he really hasn’t got any other choice than to laugh and convince himself that he is in the right.

image

Again, Milly who notices something wrong about Vash! Also interesting is Vash’s clear head shadow in the back. It’s a nice symbol for his duality, or maybe, since he’s prob thinking about Knives in this moment, for his darker twin brother.

image

Here we have Milly’s thoughts! This girl is so much cleverer and much more than the simple comic relief character- big girl with big gun might let on. I love this series for showing how versatile the main characters can be, and for not reducing any characters, especially the female ones, to simple tropes.

image

I love this page and Vash here! Poor boy is seeing the consequences of him simply being around here. Those people are very likely not alive anymore. Also when I read this the first time, I was like OH wha the heck did he just loose his arm. Trigun does not fool around.

image

We got a lot of Milly thoughts, now we finally get to see some more of Meryl again. I like how she wonders about Vash. Also she says he seemsnice, not he is nice. I mean, I think they both already grew fond of him at this point, but both know there might be something darker, sinister about Vash.

image

I’m sorry Vash but your yaoi proportions are getting out of hand what the hell is with this head of yours?? On another note I wonder what that grid in front of his heart is for? Is that for protection or to prevent it from bursting out of his chest??

And first time Vash with hair down! <3

image

oh boy I got news for you for volume 10

image

So heartbreaking, and something that is just Vash’s life…whereever he goes, he is not wanted, simply because bad people keep coming after him. It’s not his fault but as a consequence, he is rarely welcome in one place once the people find out who he is. That just adds so much more to his loneliness….

(This post is long enough so I’ll add the rest in another one)
