Jack turned to watch Daniel quickly puzzle out the words before his face clouded over, a slight flush coming to his cheeks.

"I am not!" Daniel declared indignantly.

"Why? What's Carl?" Jack asked.

Daniel fumbled around beside him and managed to find his radio in the folds of his sleeping bag. "Say again, Jack? You okay?"

"You and Carter get your asses down here. We're on the 'gate level."

"Are you alright?" "Daniel repeated, already clambering to his feet.

Sara looked up from the book she was reading. "He actually told you?"

"Yep," Jack flopped down on the bed next to her. She put down the book and turned to face him.

"Well, go on then. Tell me what happened."

Daniel scowled. "Same to you, lambchop."

Lambchop's jaw dropped, and then snapped shut with a click. His fists clenched at his side and he took a slow, serious step forward. "Doctor says she's taken," he muttered, tilting his head to the side like a hound that had caught the scent of a dead duck. "She just slipped right out that door. Looks to me like you're following."

Jack sighed and nodded. "No, we weren't. I guess I'm a little curious as to how I might have... how you might turn out."

I nodded back with understanding. "Daniel made you, didn't he?"

Jack stared at me, mulling it over. "Pretty much."

Daniel and Jack exchanged their stupid looks. They were probably waiting for some big emotional breakdown.

Daniel's mouth was hanging open in a gratifyingly stunned way. "What? How?"

"You're not supposed to ask, and I'm not supposed to tell." Daniel's answering stare is mullish and blank. "It's something you do for yourself. I'm just showing you how. We're not cuddling in the gateroom anytime soon. Now close your eyes and think of America."

"I've read Colonel Casey's report," he begins, slowly. "He seems to be of the opinion that you're not yet prepared to return to the field, Doctor Jackson."
