Favorite Film | It's a really difficult question that because I love all three for their different themes. I think the Fellowship's an incredible film, I love the journey of the nine characters in the Fellowship. The Two Towers, the three different story lines and the battle of Helm's Deep and then the whole Gollum, Sam and Frodo relationship's really strong. And of course film three is all about the resolution of the story and the climax is the various different climaxes. So I think they all hold different really strong - they've all got their own real kind of strong holds on me, all the different films. |
| Elijah | Adaptation | In a book, you can go off on tangents, and you're OK, because within a novel, you're on this mental journey. But unfortunately, you have to think of the movies in terms of people sitting in a theater. Often with Tolkien, there are tangents that are incredibly interesting to read, and enjoyable from the reader's standpoint, but not necessarily germane to the story. |
| Elijah | Tolkien | Well, it’s difficult to say. I think, for any author, I would imagine that bringing their literary work to screen and choosing actors to portray the characters that they had in their mind and had written out, is always difficult. And I can’t imagine that it would be easy for an author to watch an adaptation of their work. I feel like we have adapted the books in the best way possible and have certainly stayed true to the vision of Tolkien. So I think he would appreciate it. I think the essence of his books is certainly there and captured very well. So I would assume that he would definitely appreciate it, but I don’t know. |
| John | Trilogy | I think we've made a masterpiece. I think Peter Jackson has made a masterpiece. When you see these three films all together you're going to regard it as one of the great pieces of epic filmmaking of all time. |

Audience | Well, it would be cool if you read The Hobbit before you saw the move - it's such a great story! It's a classic story. But coming to the movie, as the audience, your big job is just to show up. Once you're sitting in the movie theater, it's an opportunity to really go to the world, quickly and easily. You show up at the move, and - bam! - you get sucked into Middle-earth. It's like going to another place and another time. |
| Sean A | Trilogy | I finally got to engage a piece of literature as a living, breathing, document in a physical, external process, and it was thrilling. |
| Viggo | Trilogy | The first movie blossomed into a beautiful movie last year, then it withered away and disappeared. Now we are planting seeds again. We aren't just throwing seeds all around the place and hoping that it will be like last time, this time we are digging deep and working hard to make a new and even more beautiful garden. |
