Billy Accent Pippin wouldn't speak with a Scottish accent, but Boyd was coy on what accent the hobbits would use, something Tolkien fans were keen to find out. They were being trained to pronounce the archaic words correctly. "A lot of work has gone into that. You'll have to wait and see," he said.
Elijah Difficulties There were really obscure lines that sounded great. You'd read them and say 'That's really gorgeous, but no way can I speak this!' It became funny to [the screenwriters]. It was amusing for them to watch us sweat bullets over these bizarre lines. A full day of work trying to speak these awful lines, and at the end of the day, they'd laugh.
Elijah Elvish I don't think I know anything sexual in elvish.
Liv Elvish Liv talks about Elvish, "A lot of that was so funny, because I would sort of see the scenes before I came down [to the set], and then I'd get there, and Viggo's favorite thing to do was to spring on me the night before that he'd had a long talk with [co-writers] Fran [Walsh] and Peter [Jackson], and he really wanted the whole scene to be in elvish, and I love to speak elvish, but I was just like, 'Argh!' I wanted to kill him, because it always seemed that I had more elvish to speak when we were doing the scenes than he did. I'm glad he did push that, because it's so great to hear, and it really adds a beautiful quality and depth to their relationship, and to the film in general.

Accent For the audition, I worked very hard. Then, when I got the part and we went down to New Zealand six weeks in advance for filming, there were two dialect coaches, Andrew Jack and Roisin Carty. They put us through our paces and we went through a couple hours a day, everyday for six weeks, where we learned not just how to do the dialect, but we got a crash course in the palate, the tongue, the lips - how to speak. It felt like the golden age of Hollywood. The dialect was really hard for me. It wasn't just a straight Cockney accent. It became a West County-inspired hybrid of working class and rural English. It was hard. Roisin and Andrew were there for every shot, and I leaned on them a lot. They set the bar high, and most of the time I barely made it over the top. A couple times I came crashing right back down on the side!
