Dialogue The intial script scenes were too expository and weren't working - the writing wasn't that great. I should have said something earlier which would have saved a lot of time but I was in awe of Peter because of 'Heavenly Creatures'. We had to invent a lot of new dialogue, which took time.

Grima "In terms of deciding what to do with this role I talked to Fran and Phillipa before I talked to Peter. Grima was important because he was the only human who turned. With something like 'Lord of the Rings' it's really a marriage between the actor and the writer as to how the part is played" the actor said before explaining that he did have breakfast with PJ after many meetings with Fran and Phillipa to check that the director was happy with him playing Grima "with a slight rasp".

Tolkien Tolkien is about a world. He's great at descriptions of places. He is not Dickens, which is about people, with perhaps the exception of Gollum. They had to invent things to make the characters less flat than Tolkien wrote them.
